A Life Worth Living Together: Humanities as Collaboration

The promise of humanistic education is traditionally to provide a well-rounded intellectual experience anchored in the study of the arts, literature, philosophy, history, and other disciplines as a window into human experience and human nature.

This year’s conference will explore all aspects of the Humanities in the context of Community College education, while emphasizing the fundamental collaborative nature of the Humanities and the roles that humanistic inquiries play in providing connections — connections that allow us to examine questions of value, power, community, identity, race, justice, healing, conflict, and transformation.

In addition to career-technical training and general education courses intended for university transfer, ACC Highland offers an extensive arts curriculum. Programs include the culinary arts, fashion design, music, radio-TV-film, game design, visual communications, jewelry, drama, dance, and more.  We are home to the Texas A&M-Chevron Engineering Academy, Bioscience Incubator, Fashion Incubator, and the new IMPACT Lab for Manufacturing. Here, you will also find the original ACCelerator, the nation’s largest interactive learning hub, featuring more than 600 computer stations. Highland students have access to academic advising, career counseling, a Testing Center,  and much more.

Culinary Arts

The program is moving into new, state-of-the-art kitchens at ACC Highland Phase 2. It’s ten times the size of the current space and features advanced equipment, multiple prep and demo kitchens, and a new, expanded student-run restaurant open to the public — Eatery 73.

Jewelry Department

Our hands-on instruction at the jewelry bench includes time-honored techniques in fabrication, lost-wax casting, and repair; as well as access to state-of-the-art equipment and computer-aided design (CAD) technology. With decades of experience in every corner of the market, our faculty will give you the foundation for success.

Career Education

Dark rooms, sound stages, and state-of-the-art editing bays put the future of entertainment in the hands of ACC’s radio-television-film, game design, photography, and visual art students. Students may learn about the legal aspects of the music industry, get access to state-of-the-art recording studios, participate in an internship program, and more.
